Formula for Amplitude of a Wave
Amplitude of a wave is measurement of energy content of the wave. Wave amplitude can also be defined as magnitude of change in atmospheric pressure driven by sound waves. Here the change can be positive or negative. Positive changes cause compression of air molecules while the negative changes cause rarefaction of air molecules.
Wave amplitude (Amp) measures amount of force applied by a wave on unit area. Since wave Amp is concerned with maximum displacement of a particle from its initial resting stage to crest or trough on a medium, formula for wave Amp is expressed as following:
Wave Amp= distance from resting state to a crest or trough/ wave frequency.

Wave Amp equation is as following:
Wave Amp= distance from resting state to a crest or trough/ wave frequency
Hence wave Amp can be calculated by time-displacement graph of a wave. If we consider a wave as a series of crest and troughs, distance from resting point to first crest or first trough can be divided by wave frequency to calculate the wave Amp.
Here we assume crest as maximum positive displacement of a particle from its resting state and trough as maximum negative displacement of a particles from its resting state.
